As the easternmost island in the Mediterranean, Cyprus is a natural point of departure for exploring this amazingly diverse region. All year round locally based cruise lines, departing from Limassol port, help locals and tourists alike get a firsthand perspective of the splendours of ancient Egypt, major attractions in Israel and Lebanon and, of course, the Greek islands. These cruises are typically of two-to-five days duration and make use of Cyprus' geographic position to eliminate the need to book hotels in the selected ports of call. For example, on the popular two-day cruise from Cyprus to Egypt (only 200 miles south), passengers overnight on board, spend a full day exploring the Great Pyramids at Giza and overnight on the ship again enroute to Cyprus.

The cruises are operated by large and comfortable cruise ships which offer full board accommodation and entertainment at very reasonable prices. Bookings for these cruises can be made while on holiday in Cyprus. Also many tour operators in Europe and elsewhere feature the cruises in their holiday brochures. The ships usually leave Limassol(Lemesos) port afternoon to early evening.

The cruise programmess have been designed specifically to suit varying travel preferences, including departure days and destinations.

The following cruise offerings are usually available:

YEAR ROUND
1. Two-day cruise to Egypt which includes a visit to the Cairo Museum and the Pyramids.
2. Two-day cruise to Israel which includes a visit to the Holy places in Jerusalem and Bethlehem.
3. Three-day combination cruise to Israel and Egypt which include the above mentioned excursions.

SEASONAL
May to October with variations depending on cruise.
1. Two-day cruise to Lebanon, which includes a visit to Beirut, other attractions and allows time for shopping.
2. Three-day cruise to Lebanon and Egypt.
3. Two-day cruise to the Greek island of Rhodes.
4. Five or six day cruise to the Greek islands including Rhodes, Mykonos, Santorini and an overnight aboard ship in Piraeus(Athens).

The Egypt Cruise
This cruise departs Limassol on Friday afternoon arriving early on Saturday at Port Said where a full day guided trip to Cairo will take place.
You will board a convoy of coaches that will take you to the Egyptian Museum with the "Tut-Ankh-Amon" treasure, the belongings of the grave of the Egyptian Pharao. The tour includes the famous Giza Plateau with the 3 Great Pyramids, one of the 7 wonders of the World before visiting the Papyrus factory, the oldest form of paper in the world.
Board the ship on Saturday evening to return to Limassol on Sunday morning.
You should find that all the tour and cruise operators will include the transfer from the guests hotels to the Limassol port in the price and this also includes the trip back to your hotel from the port.  Most are on a Half- board basis with extensive buffet breakfast in the morning and a multi-choice of 4-course dinners in the evening. Entertainment in form of Variety Shows take place every night on-board and the operators include all this in the price.

Bus Tours

Cyprus also offer bus tours around the island, through many of the local tourist agents and tour operators.

Some companies offer jouneys through the majestic Cedar valley one of the most beautiful and restricted area of Cyprus consisting of old native cedar trees. Other bus tours offered are to the more traditional towns like Nicosia, the only inland town of Cyprus, and the only divided city in the world; this was as a result of the Turkish Invasion in 1974.  These tours usually offer you other places to visit on the way to Nicosia - the Cyprus Handicraft Centre, the Cyprus Archaeological Museum with the priceless collection of Antiquities and other places of historical and cultural interest. You'll be able to can buy the famous Cyprus pottery, handicrafts and other souvenirs and also visit local tavernas.

Lefkara is another place of interest, the home of the Cyprus famous hand made lace and silverware, for you to admire and have the opportunity to buy a gift for friends and family.

Boat Trips

Enjoy a relaxing half-day cruise departing from Paphos harbour at about 10:00 in the morning, cruising along the west coast towards Coral Bay (weather permitting), dropping anchor at Coral Bay, where you will be able to enjoy a nice splash in the water. Canapes and open sandwiches are served onboard accompanied by a glass of wine or juice and coffee or tea.

Some companies also offer parascending for an extra charge.

Other operators offer a gentle sunset cruise along the Paphos Coastline at the end of the day. You can sit back and drink a glass of chilled local sparkling wine and enjoy the finger buffet, while watching the spectacular sun slip beneath the horizon.

Traditional Cypriot Nights

Many of the tour operators offer evening events at a village in Paphos or in Paphos Old Town.

They offer food and wine and traditional dancing. There is of course, Meze, the "Variety meal" with many dips and a lot of food cooked the traditional way.

These tour events are offered for guests to experience Cyprus folklore, music and food.

You can will find may outlets selling you these types of tours and they are real value for money and you'll enjoy every minute.

The Submarine Tour
